As I am an avid Playstation lover (not fanboy, lover, calm down your jock straps 360 and PC die-hards and learn the difference) I played Crysis 3 on the Playstation 3. Yes I am aware that Crysis is the franchise known for its PC benchmarking skills, I chose to play #3 on the PS3 because I am what is referred to as a “Trophy Whore”. I love the ding, i love the ability to earn a platinum, and I feel more accomplished when I earn a trophy vs an achievement. That being said, here is my Crysis 3 review.
Making a shooter that I actually want to play anymore is a difficult feat. I have grown tired of the corridor shooters such as COD or MOH. Games like Battlefield 3 even fail to pull me away any more from the Multiplayer long enough to try out/complete its’ campaign. Halo 4′s campaign, while I’m told is the best thing since sliced bread, even felt mediocre to me with combat that seemed more geared to cater to the multiplayer crowd, not story. For me to actually sit down and play a shooter where I am killing NPC’s in a story, instead of shooting other people in the face and teabagging their corpses, it needs to be AMAZING on 3 things. These things are Story, Gameplay, and Graphics or a believable/fun world. Shooting at waves and waves of enemies that are dumber than a child raised by Justin Bieber and Snookie is about as appealing to me as drinking Bear Grylls’s vomit.
Thankfully Crysis 3 delivers on all three fronts with its’ best and worst categories being the graphics. While anyone with half a brain can tell that Crysis three is one of the most beautiful looking games this generation, it has some major pop-in texture issues when loading certain levels and when starting up the multiplayer. While these issues show up, they are never game-breaking and never really draw you out of the experience though. On the flip side of this, it is one of the most graphically appealing and believable looking games I have played in a long time. Character models look great along with textures, guns, particle effects, and really everything else. This game is just drop dead gorgeous.

Gameplay is another one of Crysis 3′s strong points, and while yes at some points it plays lik a corridor shooter, it never really feels like you are restricted. You can play however you want to play, stealthy, guns-a-blazin, or a mixture of both. This game is very good at giving you multiple ways and paths to complete an objective and feel like you are forging your own path through it. Using the nanosuit is also a blast! The stealth mechanics work very well as do the armor, stamina, and nanovision mechanics. They gameplay in this game is very well thought out and streamlined to be as fluid and user friendly as possible while still maintaining precision.
The multiplayer is also extremely fun but suffers from some game dropping issues along with the occasional bugs/lag. But maps are fairly balanced, vehicles are fun, and sniping with a crossbow has never been more satisfying. There are a lot of game modes to choose from as well so you really should get bored, and if you do it shouldn’t be for long.
The story in this game is also very interesting to the point that you don’t want to stop playing because you want to find out what is really going on. It’s almost your classic rebel vs empire scenario with a surprise guest. I can’t say much more without spoiling it, so just trust me when I say that it is good. And if you play it and think I lied or just flat out disagree, GOOD. I would love to start a bitching war, so try me!
Conclusion:
Crysis 3 is one of those shooters that may get passed over by anyone that doesn’t own a tricked out PC, but make sure you give it a shot. I promise it is not just another one of those boring corridor shooters that have started to plague the Genre as of late. At $60 even I would say that this game is 100% worth it, just make sure you try and get a new Hunter Edition to have Immediate access to the Predator Bow in multiplayer!

Crossbows are sweet. I want want want!
